FAQ'S

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the Wawa?

A: the Wawa is the Western Area Wrestling Association, This is the "League" that BYWC is affiliated with. The wawa offers competition from 30+ different schools and a massive End of season tournament

Q: how do you Qualify for the End of Season Tournament?

A: All you need is 5 Wawa Points, Wawa points are tournament or match participation. As a team, we offer 4 opportunities for Wawa Matches. Wawa points are also acquired by wrestling in Wawa school-affiliated programs. (Burgettstown Hosts 1 home tournament for novice, and 1 home tournament for open kids, this is how you can acquire another Wawa point).

Q; What are the State Championships?

A: in the state of PA there are two state championships, the Keystone State championships, and the PJW State championships. Neither of these are required, however highly encouraged if you want your child to excel at this sport. Both of these tournaments have qualifying events.

Q:Where can i find the Code of conduct and By-laws for BYWC

A: We currently have them accessible from these links! By-Laws & Code Of Conduct

Q: Why is there a new drop off area for parents?

A: this year we are encouraging parents to trust the coaches and the process, wrestling is a disciplined based sport which can be very difficult to instill into kids if they have a parent close to "hold their hand". We now ask that parents either go home, shop or hang out in the new drop off area which is the main lobby of the Jr/Sr high School.

Q: What happens if I lose or damage the singlet?

A: We are trusting that your family keeps the singlet safe, When handing out singlets we will be collecting a $70 Check, This check will be UNCASHED. IF you are to lose or damage it BYWC will deposit the check, and you will be required to submit another check to receive another singlet. We do not want to do this, so please take care of that singlet!!!

Q: Does My Child Need to Cut Weight to Wrestle?

A: No, Cutting Weight for Youth Wrestlers is not Encouraged, A healthy diet with good nutritional foods is the go too! Here we encourage learning how to maintain your weight and focusing on developing skills rather than cutting weight and making your child loose important nutrients and brain power!

Q: What age can my child start wrestling?

A: We ask that your child be at least in kindergarten to begin wrestling, IF you feel that they are ready for it they are more than welcome to participate in practices. I would not start live competition wrestling however until a coach suggests it.
